Saint Germain, France - Officially Recognised Nude Beach

St Germain and Hatainville Plage a little further north are part of the vast stretch of safe, unspoilt sandy beaches and dunes that form the West Coast of the Cotentin peninsula, although only St Germain is officially a nude beach. It can be reached by turning off the D650 main road from Cherbourg, just west of St Germain sur Ay, on the D306 to Saint-Germain-Plage village, then heading south as far as possible.

The west side of Normandy's Cotentin peninsula is known as the Mother-of-Pearl Coast, with vast, empty sandy beaches, rolling dunes, wild, windblown headlands and huge skies, reminiscent of Norfolk, only generally warmer. St-Germain-sur-Ay is a huge, empty, unspoilt beach that's perfect for family picnics. It's a designated nude beach, but few people strip off. - Daily Telegraph 09/08/2004
